About

Who is writing, and how it is checked

Michele Cugia

Born in Rome, based in Los Angeles. Fifteen years in film and television production in Italy and the United States, and several years spent in Italian parish and state archives tracing his own family. He writes this site in English because the Italy that gets written about in English is about eight towns wide.

The method

Every factual claim on this site carries a source, and the source is a public institution wherever one exists: a town hall, a state archive, the Ministry of Culture, Istat, INGV. Where a figure comes from a road-routing estimate rather than a published timetable, the page says so. Where a festival has been cancelled, the page says that too, instead of quietly repeating last year's date. Pages carry the date they were last checked, and nothing here is published from memory.

What this site will not publish

  • A festival date copied from last year without checking whether this year's edition exists.
  • A driving time presented as fact when it came from a routing estimate.
  • A claim about Italian citizenship that ignores Law 74/2025 and the Constitutional Court ruling of March 2026.
  • A list of hidden villages that contains places with a coach park.
  • A page written to rank for a search term rather than to answer a question somebody actually has.
